Projects - Barona Resort and Casino
The Barona Resort and Casino, located in the hills north of San Diego, is owned and operated by the Barona Band of Mission Indians and was constructed in 2001. The facilities, which include the luxury resort, casino, and golf began collaboration with Ackerstein Sustainability in pursuit of LEED for Existing Buildings certification in 2009. The Resort supplemented an already impressive array of sustainable practices, including green cleaning, integrated pest management, a shuttle program for guests and staff, and energy efficiency improvements throughout the building with a variety of LEED-driven enhancements and additions to ultimately achieve LEED-EB Gold Certification in April of 2010. This makes the Resort the first tribal resort to earn LEED-EB certification, as well as one of the first hotels to earn this recognition.
